PICU - The Longley Centre Sheffield
Working as a subcontractor to Interserve PLC Oaklands helped to deliver this fantastic award winning project.
Designed by P+HS Architects this project was described as new 10-bed PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit) for Sheffield Health and Social Care, providing a vastly improved environment for staff, service users and their families. The development at the Longley Centre involved extensive refurbishment as well as new build and replacing outdated and cramped accommodation which had limited access to external space. The new layout includes 10 bedrooms and day spaces around a series of safe courtyard areas, allowing service users unhindered access to fresh air and outside activity, all with good observation for staff.
Oaklands were responsible for all aspects of Groundworks, Landscaping and Sleeper Walls, foundations and drainage and completed many of the specialist concrete finishes within the courtyard areas as well as the external finishes.
The key challenge of the project for Oaklands was the access and egress and scheduling of works in a challenging site.
Chesterfield Royal - Endoscopy & Medical Records
working for Vinci PLC. This project consisted of forming a second floor courtyard, demolition of existing walls, underpinning foundations and drainage works under live corridors. Oaklands completed the first floor slab, second floor suspended slab (roof deck system) to enable the works to progress machines and all materials were craned in to allow minimal disruption to the hospital.
