Case Study Leeds Schools

June 18, 2017

Oaklands were the successful bidders for the groundworks packages on Roundhay, Seacroft and Belle Isle schools to include, all drainage, foundations, Landscaping, services, roads and concrete works in support of

Interserve on the 41.4 million contract to build three new schools in Leeds.

Pupils aged between 11 and 16 with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) will be able to benefit from world-class specialist learning environments at the schools, with features including specialist teaching areas, sensory rooms, outside learning areas and sports pitches, as well as multi-use games areas.

The development is being led by the city council, who is also funding the scheme. The local authority has worked over the past year with Wellspring Academy Trust, Leeds Local Education Partnership (LEP) and Interserve to ensure the unique requirements of Wellspring`s SEMH delivery model and the SEMH pupils are met.

Case Study Britvic

May 24, 2017

Harris Construction Management commissioned Oakland’s Construction to undertake all aspects of groundworks on an extension to the existing Britvic drinks site in Pudsey, Leeds.

The site currently produces mixers and fruit juices and employs over 150 people. The extensions to the factory will offer employment to a further 40 people and will create the fourth production line within the Leeds factory.

The work package included excavations and concrete foundations. The drainage was a mix of plastic piping and due to the acidity within the product, a specific stainless steel channeling needed to be sourced. A 45,000 litre effluent pump tank was installed and concrete retaining walls erected prior to handing over to the fit-out contractor.

Works were ongoing until mid 2017. Oaklands are heavily involved across a number of Pepsi Co (Britvic) sites on repair and upgrade works.

As a result of quality and service we have also carried out planned maintenance works at Rugby (Warwickshire) and at Becton North London that will be carried out under R&M. Our requirement was to simply repeat the quality achieved on Leeds

Harrogate Showground

August 30, 2016

The old main exhibition hall at the Great Yorkshire Showground, was only intended to last for 20 years when it was erected in the 1960s. This

was taken down before its modern and larger replacement was constructed.

Working with Clugston Construction, Oaklands were responsible for completing works on areas of demolition, new foundations, new drainage, water attenuation, hard landscaping and finishing many of the recreation areas within the project.

The completion of this project was late spring 2016, with bookings already being taken when the project achieved financial close only a few months prior.  Despite challenging weather conditions, material supply complication and design changes no single event was cancelled and the project was completed with minimal disruption to the events to a very high standard.

The building supports a range of events, from blue chip company conferences to large dinners and exhibitions or sporting events. As the new building adjoins an existing hall, the total event space was extended to 6,270 sqm with a café, large foyer, offices and dedicated workshop and seminar space as part of the build.

Case Study Warburtons

November 27, 2015

Working with Hargreaves Contracting, Oakland's operated as a subcontractor to carry out works on Europe’s largest new ‘super bakery’ . This extends to over 21,565 sq m  including 2,000 sq m of offices. This cutting edge Bakery is capable of producing 2 million loaves and 500,000 packets of rolls per week. Extensive Ground stabilisation works and Earthworks were necessary prior to commencement of building.

Construction of new substructure and floor-slabs to facilitate the installation of a new production line.

Oaklands package included concrete slabs, upper floors package and drainage. Attenuation, and the creation of the car parks to accommodate increased personnel subsequently created by the new line. This job has been delivered in a tight timescale within a working production facility with careful consideration being taken at all times to cause minimum disruption to day to day operations. Oaklands enjoy working with Warburton’s delivering minor and major works across bakeries on a National Basis.

To accommodate one of the largest privately owned fleets of delivery vehicles almost 9 acres of the site was given over to concrete yard areas, whilst precast perimeter walls and dock levellers were utilised to reduce programme. Internally polyurethane resin floors and Isoclad panelling ensured food preparation hygiene requirements were met. Extensive car parking, vehicle washing and fuel storage facilities completed this ultra modern production facility.
