The old main exhibition hall at the Great Yorkshire Showground, was only intended to last for 20 years when it was erected in the 1960s. This
was taken down before its modern and larger replacement was constructed.
Working with Clugston Construction, Oaklands were responsible for completing works on areas of demolition, new foundations, new drainage, water attenuation, hard landscaping and finishing many of the recreation areas within the project.
The completion of this project was late spring 2016, with bookings already being taken when the project achieved financial close only a few months prior. Despite challenging weather conditions, material supply complication and design changes no single event was cancelled and the project was completed with minimal disruption to the events to a very high standard.
The building supports a range of events, from blue chip company conferences to large dinners and exhibitions or sporting events. As the new building adjoins an existing hall, the total event space was extended to 6,270 sqm with a café, large foyer, offices and dedicated workshop and seminar space as part of the build.
